As it is becoming increasing difficult for me to source the portraits I am painting, I at times, bereft of the reference to the sitter, as is the case here. What is interesting to me is the placement of the image befitting of the crown on the Bud can, thereby creating a good marriage of can and image which makes for the best pieces. Henry Peters Gray (1819-1877)

Henry was born in NYC he was a pupil of Daniel Huntington in New York, and subsequently studied in Rome and Florence. Elected a member of the National Academy of Design in 1842, he succeeded Huntington as president in 1870, holding the position until 1871.^[1]

The later years of his life were devoted to portrait work. He was strongly influenced by the old Italian masters, painting in mellow colour with a classical tendency. One of his notable canvases was an allegorical composition called "The Birth of our Flag" (1875). He died in NYC. Sold.

Andrew Robertson ((1777-1845)

Andrew was one of the finest Scottish miniature painters. This is from a self portrait. he worked in London most of his life and was the appointed miniature painter to the Duke of Essex. Sold.

Sara Goodridge (1788-1853)

This is from a self portrait. Sara was a leading miniaturist in Boston. She's now infamous for a miniature portrait of her breast, naming it "Beauty Revealed", that she had presented to a lover and that is now at the permanent collection of the Met in NY. Sold
